I keep wanting to start riding my bike more. (Right now, any riding would qualify.) To the store, to work, to school, basically everywhere. It's healthy and fun and almost no reason not to do it. Back in the day when I actually did this it didn't usually take significantly longer on the bike than by car and it was a lot less stressful. Right now I have a few barriers to starting this up again. One, Audrey doesn't have a bike, so I'd be doing it alone at least to start. Two, I'm in terrible shape (but getting better all the time) so starting out will be difficult. Three, my schedule is kind of tight so it would be more difficult fitting it in, particularly going to work which adds about 40 minutes to the commute according to google, I suspect more given point number two. Before I changed jobs the ride to work would have been easier, and shorter making getting started easier.

Clicking makes it bigger! |
I think the biggest thing I need to fix is getting Audrey a bike. I think if I do that and can convince her to do short rides with me, maybe to the store or fun rides along the river it would be a good start. If I can do that, that will help take care of point two, and when I get point two covered, I'll be able to ride faster and that will help out point three. So I've got a plan, lets see how I do with implementation. By the end of July I'd like to have my bike tuned up and running, and an inexpensive but functional bike for Audrey. I'm giving myself probably too much time, but with school going until the end of June, plus all my other ambitious and expensive projects, I'm thinking that a longer timeline might be more realistic. Also, I haven't really talked to Audrey about it yet, so hopefully I can get her on board!

One of many good reasons to ride! |
The positive side to all this losing weight and getting stronger thing I'm doing makes me feel like I can do anything. (While not true and must be tempered with some realism...) I feel like this is within my reach, hopefully sooner than later. Wish me luck!
(Also, if anyone has suggestions on what to look for in an Audrey bike lemme know!)
I will try this again.
ReplyDeleteFind out what Audrey wants in a bike, or if she has no idea, go bike shopping together after choosing a budget. Take a look at Public bikes to get an idea, or Trek has a good price range and selection as well.
And I meant look at their website http://publicbikes.com/ sometimes it can be hard to find bikes online that are affordable.
